The Family Historian

A little bit about me.
This blog is currently maintained by Verity, a 30-something non-professional genealogist/family historian with 7 years primarily online research experience and two Bachelor of Science degrees in Biological Anthropology and Statistics.  To say that I primarily use online resources is to say that the "on location" research has been limited by financial resources restricting me from visiting New York, where the majority of my maternal ancestors resided.  (I have no fear of library research, having worked in one of my university's library during both degrees, it is just that most of the records I need for my research interests are online or have to be requested for a nominal fee.)  I hope to some day hold a professional genealogy certification, so perhaps this blog will help with those research and writing skills.  If you see anything in error, something that I have missed, can provide direction or the like, feel free to comment or email.

Intent
As the family keeps growing, technology expanding and the days seem to grow shorter, there is simply no way I will get to publishing a carbon copy of the family tree/family history and get it to everyone before I enter a nursing home.  ...And I am just not rich enough to provide a paper copy!!

Thus I present to the world a faithful account of all my knowledge and research I have been able to obtain so far from my humble residence in the Southwest and through the internet.  Some day I will be able to take a research trip or two but as it stands, I have to pay off student loans first.

Content
The majority of my research has been on my maternal side and will be presented on this blog, as my paternal aunt has done a superior job of researching my paternal side.  Due to the nature of the internet security, I will only be including stories, pictures and information about the deceased, starting with my grandparents but not their siblings as I have no wish to misrepresent family I never got to know well.  However, since my grandmother's parents both had no siblings, I will be posting about my grandfather's cousins and any other lower-outer branches I can get to, in the hopes of finding connections.

Places You Can Find Me
In case you didn't want to wait for posts or wish for more details, you can find my public family trees on Ancestry under member danatruth and now on FamilySearch.org.  I am also on FindAGrave as Verity.  When I do disconnect, I can be found working on my sewing and cooking projects, reading from the large stack of books on my desk or working on one of my many language interests.  You can see updates to my projects on my other blog Verity's Veranda.

Content Warning
Please remember the sage words of genealogist Thomas MacEntee: "Copyright does not mean a right to copy."  So if there is anything you like here and want to share elsewhere online, please ask before using content elsewhere.  You are more than welcome to print out posts and the like but know that there might be errors and that none of my work has been overly peer-reviewed.

  1. Hi Verity! What happened to your other blog? It was awesome! We're coming to ABQ in Sept -- would love to see y'all but I lost your email when I closed my Yahoo account. Sadness.
